In partnership with parents to make learning FUN!
Welcome to Creative Co-op Preschool, a State of Michigan licensed educational facility located in Clarkston, Michigan.
If you are looking for small class sizes and a nurturing environment that encourages creativity, imagination and parental involvement at affordable prices, then this is the preschool for you and your child!
What is a Co-op?
A co-op is a preschool that is run entirely by parents for a fraction of the cost of a traditional preschool. The school consists of two permanent staff members with parent volunteers that help in the classroom on a monthly basis. Together, the members shape the direction and policies of the schools with the guidance of a qualified teacher. They share a philosophy that emphasizes the importance of self esteem in a child's healthy development that recognizes the value of learning through play.
Curriculum
Creative Co-op is open during September through May each school year
Play
Students are given time during each school day to play. The choices of play areas offered vary day to day, but some areas that might be available include:
The dress up center, train table, and play kitchen (Dramatic Play)
The water table, play-doh table, sandbox (Sensory Tables)
The block area (large and small blocks for building)
The quiet area for reading and puzzles
Learning Activities
Students will complete one or more activities each school day that teach a skill (counting, writing, listening, and more!)
3’s Class Activity Example:
For “S” week, (we learn a new letter every week) students take paper cut into the shape of an “S” and transform it into a snake by adding stickers and googly eyes. Peeling stickers is a great fine-motor skill.
4’s Class Activity Example:
For “Paw Patrol” week students count and sort fruit snacks by color. Then, on a color-coded chart, they graph the number of fruit snacks of each color with a matching-color marker.
Jr. Kindergarten Activity Example:
For valentines day, students measured items from around the room with candy hearts and documented their findings.
Recess
We think that recess is one of the most important parts of a preschooler’s day! We have a wonderful playground that was installed in 2022 that we utilize every day (when it’s not freezing cold out!) If it is too cold, or is raining, we’ll do a fun group activity in the classroom.
Field Trips
We take monthly field trips. Field trip participation is optional. Some field trips we’ve taken in past years have included:
Taking a hayride to pick out pumpkins in a pumpkin patch and then enjoying yummy donuts and cider.
Attending group roller skating lessons at an indoor roller skating rink.
Painting ceramics, which get glazed afterwards so your student can proudly display them at home.
Learning how a pizza is made at a restaurant and then making their own individual pizza!
